Can YOU help your local branch of the RSPCA?
There are many ways in which we can incorporate your valuable help but please be realistic on the hours you can actually spare.
Volunteering for the RSPCA is a great way to meet like-minded people and to be involved with a group of individuals who share the same enthusiasm as you for animal welfare. Being a volunteer will enable you to gain new skills or develop existing ones and can provide you with an opportunity to make a real difference.
Note
The first thing you must consider is what you would like to do and in order to help you we have comprised details of all of the areas you might like to practically help us.
Home Visitor
The role of a home visitor is to visit the homes of potential animal adopters to ensure their suitability for an RSPCA animal. Home visitors talk to potential animal adopters to ensure that they have thought about the implications of owning a pet.
No specific skills are required for the role, although the ability to communicate effectively with people and to document information is essential. Full training is provided and ongoing support.
Key Activities
- To attend a home visit training course
- Making contact with potential adopters
- Report the findings of the home visit to the animal centre
- To complete the relevant documentation regarding the home visit
- To become familiar with the rehoming ploicies and practices of the RSPCA
Trustee
If you would like to have a say in how the Branch is run why not consider becoming a trustee.
You will need to be a member of the RSPCA for 3 months (annual membership £17.50). You can then be voted on as a trustee at the AGM or be co-opted on by the exisiting trustees already in place. If you would like an informal chat on becoming a trustee please contact the centre with your details and they will be forwarded on the Chairman.
Key Activities
- To ensure the branch is run in accordance with policies
- To attend the monthly trustees meetings
- To discuss and make decisions with regards to the branch
Fundraising
We require passionate like minded people with the enthusiasm to help with our fundraising efforts. To ensure the success of our events we have a fundraising committee to which we actively encourage new members or alternatively you may wish to help in other ways:
- Donate or collect prizes
- Bake a cake
- Put up some psoters to spread the word!
- Drive a van
- Help to erect and dismantle gazebos
- Help run a stall
- Provide craft items for resale to generate funds
This is a small selection of the ways you can help and there are tasks suitable for everyone, so if you would like to get involved please contact us. Alternatively you may wish to organise an event yourself and we have a wide range of information available to help.
